It is with heavy hearts we share news from Mica Willis ’13 that her dad, Hulon Willis, Jr. ’77, P ’13, passed away tragically in a car accident. We are all mourning alongside Mica and Hulon’s sister, Kimberly Willis Miles ’80, and the rest of their family, who have meant so much to our community and been involved with the university for decades. He recorded an oral history about his experiences in 2018. His father, Hulon Willis Sr. M.Ed. ’56, P ’77, G ’13 was the first African American student at William & Mary. The Hulon Willis Association was named in his honor in 1992 and Willis Hall was named in his honor in 2021.
Hulon Jr. was an essential partner in helping so many of our alumni reconnect with William & Mary and feel a greater sense of belonging at the university. And he loved W&M deeply. He was more than an alumnus. He was our friend and part of our beloved family.
May he rest in eternal peace. A memorial service will be held on Feb. 2 in Petersburg and live streamed. Learn more.
