A Pivotal Moment for Athletics: “The Gordiniers know that having a world-class facility will strengthen the experience of athletes at W&M for generations to come,” a family spokesperson said.

As William & Mary prepares for the May 9 groundbreaking and celebration of the reimagined home for W&M Athletics, one family is hoping their generosity will help inspire others to give back in support of the W&M Athletics Complex.

The Gordinier family made a $2-million gift to the Complex, a major focus of the university’s All In campaign and a transformational undertaking for the university and William & Mary Athletics. The Complex will include a new Sports Performance Center, a renovated Kaplan Arena and the Mackesy Tennis Center at the Millie West Courts, among other facilities.

“The generosity of the Gordinier family is a tremendous step forward as we continue to build support for this vital project,” says William & Mary Athletics Director Brian Mann. “Their vision and enthusiasm for this next chapter of the university — and our entire athletics department — is an inspiration to us all, and I hope that others in our community will follow in their footsteps.”

According to a spokesperson for the Gordinier family, they believe that the new Complex will be a game-changer for W&M Athletics.

“The Gordiniers know that having a world-class facility will strengthen the experience of athletes at W&M for generations to come,” the family spokesperson said. “They firmly believe that participation in athletics at W&M prepares students for the competitive setting of the real world — they want to provide present and future athletes with a Complex they can be proud of while having a positive impact on the entire student body.

“It is their hope that the reinvigorated Complex will provide even greater opportunities and resources for athletes, coaches, staff and the entire W&M community.”

Their gift follows the announcement of a combined $1.1 million in gifts from several donors to the Complex as the university marked the one-year anniversary of the All In campaign in March. William & Mary needs to raise an additional $24 million to complete the project.
