Kathleen “Kathy” Marie King J.D. ’76 of Alexandria, Va., died June 30, 2018. In 1977, she began working as an attorney for the U.S. federal government in an office of the Interstate Commerce Commission. She served as an attorney-advisor to the commission’s secretary from 1980 to 1984, when she was appointed assistant secretary. After the ICC was abolished in 1995, she began working for the Fairfax County government in the School Age Child Care Program, where she enjoyed working with students on arts, crafts and theater projects. She retired in 2018. A member of the Rebekah Lodges, she also was active in Potomac Lodge 38 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and participated for many years in the organization’s annual pilgrimage to the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery. Another favorite activity was the Special Olympics Annual Night of Trees. A lifelong Washington Redskins fan, she also supported the Washington Capitals and other sports teams. She enjoyed politics, painting, basket weaving, jewelry making and needlework. Her bachelor’s degree was earned at Mary Washington College (now the University of Mary Washington). Surviving are a sister, a brother, three nieces, two nephews, six great-nieces and two great-nephews.
