The summer meeting of the William & Mary Alumni Association Board of Directors was held at the Fairmont Hotel, June 2-3, 2016, in Washington. D.C. On Thursday, June 2, the executive committee met to discuss the meeting details and progress against goals for the inaugural WM Weekend in Washington. The full board convened at 10 a.m. and began with approvals of consent agenda items, alumni awards, policy approvals and a report by the Executive Director. The Director for Alumni Programs and Special Events presented preliminary results of the recently completed Alumni Interest Survey, followed by activity reports by the committee chairs for Board Development, Career Connections, Chapters & Regional Initiatives, Signature Events, Communications and Finance & Investment. On Friday, the Treasurer reviewed the Association's investment portfolio and performance, and presented the proposed operating budget for FY 2017; the Board voted on nominees for the Alumni Medallion, received updates on Board giving, campaign progress, and held conversations with the Vice President for University Advancement, Matthew Lambert, and University President, Taylor Reveley on their priorities for the year and ways for the Board to help further the goals. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Board recognized departing members Tom Flesher '73, David Kelley '81, Kevin Turner '95, and Wayne Woolwine '61 for their service to the Alumni Association during their terms on the Board. Terms commenced for new members Bruce Christian '73, Pam Michael '65, Carla Moreland '81, JD '83 and Todd Norris '86. Other significant discussion and decisions were made on the following actions:
The next regular meeting of the Board of Directors will be September 15-16, 2016, in Williamsburg, in conjunction with the W&M Volunteer Leadership Summit.
The Annual General Membership Meeting of the Association was held on Thursday, June 2, at 4:30 p.m., in the Kennedy Ballroom of the Fairmont Hotel in Washington, D.C. At the meeting, Association President, Cindy Jarboe, and Executive Director, Marilyn Midyette, gave a Year-in-Review presentation highlighting the alumni engagement efforts of the Association, the Association's funding model, plans for the Alumni House expansion and the Association's campaign goals and monetary targets for the sustainment of those goals. The meeting adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
