Now in its fourth year, the William & Mary Alumni Association’s Annual Review and Accolades seeks to honor and celebrate successful engagement among regional alumni networks. In FY22 (July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022), the W&M Alumni Association recognized W&M Charleston, W&M Charlottesville-Highlands, W&M Chicago, W&M D.C. Metro, W&M Richmond, W&M Triangle and W&M Williamsburg-Peninsula for exemplary programming and a commitment to engaging fellow alumni, parents, family and friends with alma mater.
After more than a year of virtual programming, W&M’s regional alumni networks returned to in-person engagement after Labor Day 2021. In the first year of hybrid programming, regional networks hosted diverse programs including virtual, family, social, service, educational, cultural and signature events.
For example, W&M Charlottesville-Highlands won an accolade for hosting a private tour of the Paramount Theater in downtown Charlottesville, Virginia. The tour included a brief history of the 90-year-old venue, the stage, dressing rooms, behind-the-scenes areas and balcony. After the tour, attendees enjoyed a wine-and-charcuterie social in the lounge area. Tour guides attended the social to answer attendees’ questions.
W&M D.C. Metro received an accolade for a successful museum series that included virtual and in-person events. In January, the network hosted a virtual visit to NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, during which attendees learned about Goddard’s missions and research involving earth science, planetary science, heliophysics and astrophysics. In May and July, W&M D.C. Metro hosted virtual and in-person visits to the Chinese American Museum, where David Uy ’93, M.B.A. ’96 is executive director. During the in-person tour, attendees explored special exhibitions, including one on porcelain and early American trade.
In the Annual Review process, regional network leadership teams set goals and create a tentative calendar of engagement opportunities for the upcoming fiscal year. The Annual Review also provides Alumni Engagement staff and the network leadership teams insight as to how to best support W&M alumni, parents, family and friends in their regions. Below are the winning networks and events from the past year, as selected by the W&M Alumni Association.
