About Class Notes

Class notes are a valued part of the W&M Alumni Magazine and a vital way alumni keep each other updated on their lives since graduation. Class reporters are volunteers from each class who are dedicated to keeping their classmates connected to each other and the university. If you are interested in becoming a class reporter, please contact alumni.magazine@wm.edu for more information.

Each reporter has the opportunity to submit a column three times per year. Because of our production timeline, columns are submitted three to four months before they are published. While printed columns are text-only and have limited space, reporters have the option to submit an online version of their column that can include much more detail, including links and photos.

Reporters are encouraged to collect news from their classmates in a variety of ways and are responsible for obtaining permission to publish news about individuals. The W&M Alumni Magazine team also collects news items from local, regional and national media outlets to share with class reporters. Because these news items are public, reporters are not required to seek additional permission but must cite the date and publication for each piece of news from media outlets used in their columns.

Alumni can submit news by sending it directly to their class reporter using the contact information included in each column. If your class does not have a reporter, you may submit news directly to alumni.magazine@wm.edu.

All news submitted to reporters or to the magazine staff is edited for length, clarity, Associated Press style and W&M editorial guidelines and may appear in the Class Notes in print, online or both. Submission is not a guarantee of publication.

While we make every effort to collect columns and check facts, each column is the responsibility of the class reporter. Any opinions expressed are their own.

The magazine team verifies every name mentioned in each column against our alumni records database. Please see our degrees page for more information about how names and degrees are denoted at W&M. If your name has changed or you would like to update your preferred class year, please let us know so we can update our records.
