Story ideas about William & Mary alumni and donors should be submitted to W&M Alumni Magazine editors using the online form or by emailing alumni.magazine@wm.edu. We publish articles in the print magazine and online at magazine.wm.edu, as well as on W&M Alumni (@WMAlumni) social media accounts. Topics should be of general interest to the W&M alumni community and submissions should include information about what makes the story timely and relevant.

Ideas about current students and university programs, departments and schools should be sent to W&M News, which publishes articles online at news.wm.edu and on social media (@WMNews).

Awards and Career Accomplishments

W&M Alumni Magazine reports on several awards presented by the W&M Alumni Association each year: the Alumni Medallion, Alumni Civic & Humanitarian Leadership Award, the Douglas N. Morton '62 Alumni and Young Alumni Service Awards, Olde Guarde Distinguished Service Award, Coach of the Year and Faculty/Staff Service Award. We also report on honorary degrees for alumni and Honorary Alumni designations.

News about career achievements and promotions are included online in our periodic “Kudos!” compilation and may be submitted to alumni.magazine@wm.edu. They are also shared with class reporters for inclusion in Class Notes.

News about books authored by alumni are included in our quarterly “Alumni Book Roundup” online articles and may be submitted to alumni.magazine@wm.edu. 

Obituaries

To report a death or submit an obituary, please email alumni.magazine@wm.edu or call 757-221-1167.

News about members of the William & Mary community who have passed away is included in the W&M Alumni Magazine’s In Memoriam section in print and online. In our annual Sunset Ceremony during Homecoming & Reunion Weekend, we honor members of the William & Mary community whose death was reported to us during the year. 

News about the death of a faculty member is often shared with the campus population through an email. Those emails are posted on the announcements page of W&M News. 

Contributing material

On occasion, W&M Alumni Magazine will publish contributed stories from alumni or from various university programs, departments, schools and research partners. If selected, those stories will be run under the byline of the contributor, along with their association/department. Contributed pieces will be edited for clarity, grammar, sense and adherence to W&M Alumni Magazine’s modified AP style.

Contributed video and photography will be reviewed by editors to ensure it adheres to university style and branding guidelines. If the content meets requirements, the channel for distribution will be determined by the editorial staff.

Fundraisers

W&M Alumni Magazine does not generally cover fundraising news unless it is associated with William & Mary.
